Patents

A pesquisa e o desenvolvimento para elaboração de novos produtos (no sentido mais abrangente) requerem, na maioria das vezes, grandes investimentos. Proteger esse produto através de uma patente significa prevenir-se de que competidores copiem e vendam esse produto a um preço mais baixo, uma vez que eles não foram onerados com os custos da pesquisa e desenvolvimento do produto. A proteção conferida pela patente é, portanto, um valioso e imprescindível instrumento para que a invenção e a criação industrializável se torne um investimento rentável.

Patente é um título de propriedade temporária sobre uma invenção ou modelo de utilidade, outorgados pelo Estado aos inventores ou autores ou outras pessoas físicas ou jurídicas detentoras de direitos sobre a criação. Em contrapartida, o inventor se obriga a revelar detalhadamente todo o conteúdo técnico da matéria protegida pela patente.

Durante o prazo de vigência da patente, o titular tem o direito de excluir terceiros, sem sua prévia autorização, de atos relativos à matéria protegida, tais como fabricação, comercialização, importação, uso, venda, etc.

Brazilian Industrial Property Office is the main site for searchable patent and trademark databases in Spanish.

Canada
Canadian Intellectual Property Office Comprehensive coverage of Canadian patent information from 1924. Free access to bibliographic data, claims, front pages, abstracts and drawings available for many patents. Basic keyword, Boolean, patent number and advanced search functions are available.

Japan The Japan Patent Office
The Japanese Patent Office offers free access to several English language databases.

PAJ (Patent Abstracts of Japan) is a database of bibliographic data, patent abstracts, drawings and legal status information from January 1993.


Korea
Korean Intellectual Property Office
In Korean and English.

New Zealand
Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand
Includes database searching of patents, designs and trademarks by number, word, proprietor, class/schedule or goods & services classification.

Poland
Polish Patent Office (Ars Patent)
Provides a bibliographical search facility for the Polish Patent Office's in-house databases of patents (since 1979), utility models (since 1979) and trademarks. Search Polish patents, Polish utility models , Polish trademarks, International trademarks, i.e. international registrations of marks made under the Madrid Agreement. Some databases required user registration prior to searching. In Polish and English.

Romania
State Office for Inventions and TrademarksBibliographic database of Romanian patent information from 1906. In Romanian with a few English examples.

Russian Federation
Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks
Free access to abstracts of patented inventions from two databases: RUABRU and RUABEN. Registration required then use public username and password to access free abstracts.
In English and Russian.

Spain
