An 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan early Friday morning (occurred at 14:46 JST - 05:46 UTC) on 11 March 2011) approximately 250 miles northeast of Tokyo, sparking a tsunami that caused major destruction in northern Japan. The current tragedy is now being described as the worst disaster since World War II with thousands of people missing, property damage beyond compare and nuclear power diaster threatened. We encourage all of our friends in the industry and organizations to consider a donation to a reputable charity such as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies or U.N. OCHA Office for the Coordenation of Humanitarian Affairs to help search and rescue efforts and to help care for the victims.
