- How do energy-assessors determine the market value of their services?
- How do facilities determine the relative quality of the services they receive?
- How do both parties enter into mutually productive agreements?
ASME’s new Energy Assessment (EA) Standards and Guidance Documents were developed at the request of the U.S. Department of Energy to address this critical need. Currently, there are four separate EA Standards covering:
- Process Heating Systems
- Pumping Systems
- Steam Systems
- Compressed Air Systems
These EA Standards are the first of their kind in the world. They set the requirements for conducting and reporting the results of an energy assessment that considers the entire system, from energy inputs to the work performed as a result of these inputs.
Facilities are able to identify major opportunities for improving energy efficiency and performance throughout their systems. For example: Of the 2,305 energy assessments conducted as of March, 2010 under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Program, 1,705 plants had reported a total of $232 million per year in implemented energy cost savings, with an average energy bill reduction of 8 percent!
Use of these EA Standards and accompanying Guidance Documents will increase the quantity and quality of energy assessments performed, with significant potential savings in implemented energy costs.
Intended for energy managers, facility managers, plant engineers, maintenance managers, plant managers, environmental health and safety managers, plus others across a broad range of industries.
EA-1-2009 Energy Assessment for Process Heating Systems This Standard establishes requirements for conducting energy assessments of process heating systems at industrial facilities. Process heating systems—commonly referred to using terms such as furnaces, melters, ovens and heaters—use heat sources such as fuels, electricity, steam or other fluids to supply the required heat. ISBN: 9780791832783; No. Pages: 20.
Also available: EA-1G-2010 Guidance Document
ISBN: 9780791833261; No. Pages: 40.
Provides technical background and application details
EA-2-2009 Energy Assessment for Pumping Systems
This Standard establishes requirements for conducting energy assessments of pumping systems at industrial facilities. Pumping systems generally include pumps, drivers, drives, distributing piping, valves, sealing systems, controls, instrumentation, and end-use equipment, such as heat-exchangers. ISBN: 9780791832790; No. Pages: 28.
Also available: EA-2G-2010 Guidance Document
ISBN: 9780791833209; No. Pages: 40.
Provides technical background and application details
EA-3-2009 Energy Assessment for Process Heating Systems
This Standard establishes requirements for conducting energy assessments of steam systems at industrial facilities. Steam systems are defined as a system containing steam generators or other steam sources, a steam distribution network and end-use equipment. Cogeneration and power generation components may also be elements of the system. ISBN: 9780791832806; No. Pages: 20.
Also available: EA-3G-2010 Guidance Document
ISBN: 9780791833261; No. Pages: 40.
Provides technical background and application details.
EA-4-2010 Energy Assessment for Compressed Air Systems This Standard establishes requirements for conducting energy assessments of compressed air systems at industrial facilities. Compressed air systems are defined as a group of subsystems comprised of integrated sets of components, including air compressors, treatment equipment, controls, piping, pneumatic tools, pneumatically-powered machinery, and process applications utilizing compressed air. ISBN: 9780791832813; No. Pages: 48.
Also available: EA-4G-2010 Guidance Document
ISBN: 9780791833292; No. Pages: 56.
Provides technical background and application details.
